SPECIAL EVENTS: Family Activities and Field Trips

Annual Preschool Pancake Breakfast

Each year the preschool hosts a Pancake Breakfast.  This event is run by the Preschool's Special Events Committee.  The committee members establish a new theme each year.  The preschool classes create unique and special artwork to be displayed in the gym and as centerpieces for the tables.  The families feast on a endless buffet of buttermilk pancakes, pork sausage, fruit, coffee, milk and orange juice.  We have Christian Clowns who entertain the children with face painting and caricatures, and have activity tables set up with art activities for the children to do.  The Pancake Breakfast is a day that is enjoyed by all who attend!

Father/Child Bowling

Preschool children and their dads can enjoy this event usually scheduled in the Spring at the Thunder Bowl in Mokena. In the past, the Thunder Bowl has provided pizza for everyone and the Preschool Special Events Committee topped lunch off with cookies. Each father/child bowling team had their picture taken.

Pumpkin Farm

Children in the Early Learning, Discovery and Kinderbridge Classes visit Konow's Corn Maze in Homer Glen, Illinois, in October.
They enjoy a day in the country with live animals, a hay ride, jumping pillow, cornfield bouncer, mazes, and pumpkins.

Nativity Play

The children in the Discovery and Kinderbridge classes participate in a drama depicting the birth of Jesus at The Children's Farm in Palos in December. This is a special experience that helps all of us to be aware of the true meaning of Christmas.

Christmas Programs and Parties

Each class performs a special Christmas Program for their parents each December which is followed by a class Christmas party.

Field Trip to the Children's Farm

The children in the Creative Beginners and Early Learning classes visit The Farm in Palos in May. This is a hands-on farm experience that enriches the curriculum dealing with the spring season, animals, seeds, and plants.

Field Site Visits

Field site visits are planned and arranged by the individual teachers throughout the year. They provide an opportunity for the children to further investigate a topic that they have been discussing in class. Some field sites we have visited are Pilcher Park, New Lenox Library, Frankfort Post Office, Alsip Nursery, and Freedom Hall Theater. Also, members of the Frankfort Fire and Police Departments visit the school during the year to give demonstrations and answer the children's questions.
